Community Organization Urges Chicago to Increase Funding for Arts and Culture

Arts Alliance Illinois is advocating for Mayor Brandon Johnson to boost Chicago’s cultural grant budget by $15 million. A recent analysis revealed that Chicago is the only major city in the U.S. that reduced funding for its local arts agency in the last budget cycle. Last year, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) distributed $10.8 million in grants to various arts organizations, but this year faced a 15% budget cut.
