Blue Origin has introduced its “Power Tower,” a solar electricity generation system intended for use at an upcoming lunar base. Announced by Jeff Bezos on September 25, the 20-meter-tall tower is designed to deliver over 10 kilowatts of power, specifically for Moon Base operations at the lunar south pole.
In an animation shared on X, the tower is depicted landing on the moon and deploying solar arrays. A linked YouTube video showcases a deployment test from July 2026, demonstrating the tower’s functionality.
The Power Tower utilizes modular architecture, aiming to extend power distribution beyond the initial landing zone. It builds upon previous technology called the Lunar Array Mast and Power System (LAMPS), developed by Honeybee Robotics, which has been involved in NASA’s Vertical Solar Array Technology (VSAT) project.
This innovation aligns with NASA’s plans under the Artemis program, which seeks to establish a moon base by 2032.
