AAA advises residents of Middle Tennessee to stay home and ready their properties ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — AAA is urging Tennessee residents to prepare for Hurricane Isaias, which is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds. With potential for damaging winds and power outages, it’s essential to act quickly to protect homes and vehicles.

Megan Cooper, a spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group, emphasized, “The biggest mistake Tennesseans can make is waiting until the storm is already overhead to take action. Secure your property, know where you will shelter, and check your vehicle now. Once warnings are issued, your priority should be getting to safety, not getting on the road.”

Preparation Tips for Homeowners:

  • Identify a safe spot in your home away from windows and potential flood areas.
  • Keep flashlights and fully charged phones handy.
  • Move outdoor items like furniture and grills inside before strong winds arrive.
  • Ensure that doors and windows are secured tightly.
  • Set up emergency alerts or prepare a battery-powered weather radio in case of power outages.

Drivers should also inspect their vehicles:

  • Check tire tread and pressure.
  • Examine windshield wipers.
  • Ensure emergency kits include water, a flashlight, and basic tools.

Avoid driving during emergencies unless absolutely necessary, especially if roads are flooded or winds are strong. Stay alert for sudden gusts and never attempt to drive through standing water.
