European Automotive Glass Innovation Conference 2026: Engaging in Circularity Across the Entire Value Chain

The second European Vehicle Glazing Innovation Summit took place in Stuttgart on September 28 and 29, bringing together over a hundred industry actors to discuss the latest innovations and trends in automotive glazing. Justin Loup from Glass for Europe highlighted the pressing issue of automotive glass recycling, emphasizing the current low rates of recycling as a missed opportunity to reduce material usage and emissions while lowering production costs.

He pointed out the challenges of recycling automotive glass and the importance of upcoming regulations, particularly the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR), which mandates the dismantling and recycling of a significant portion of automotive glazing. This regulation will encourage the development of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes to aid in financing recycling efforts.

Loup also noted that future recycling efforts will hinge on designing automotive products with circularity in mind. As glazing components increasingly incorporate technologies like cameras and sensors, the ability to dismantle these elements for effective recycling becomes critical.

The summit facilitated valuable discussions among stakeholders throughout the automotive glazing value chain, identifying opportunities and challenges regarding regulatory approaches and the path toward greater circularity in automotive glass. Glass for Europe aims to foster the successful implementation of ELVR to enhance glass recycling outcomes.
