UCF to Honor Tech Innovator and Alumna Yvette Kanouff with Naming of School of Data, Mathematical, and Statistical Sciences

Yvette Kanouff’s Legacy at UCF

Yvette Kanouff aims to inspire UCF students to recognize their own potential. Recently, the University of Central Florida (UCF) Board of Trustees honored her contributions by renaming the UCF School of Data, Mathematical and Statistical Sciences to the Dr. Yvette Kanouff School. This decision acknowledges her transformational gift to the university and establishes it as one of the few named mathematical schools in the United States.

Advancing Student Success

Kanouff’s contribution includes the creation of an endowed fund dedicated to enhancing student success at UCF. This fund will support graduate students, increase scholarship access, and recognize excellence in teaching and research among students and faculty within the College of Sciences.

Kanouff emphasizes the importance of everyone’s role in fostering student success through mentoring, professional connections, or financial support, declaring, “I want our students and future students to know that what I’m investing in is them.”

Personal Experience and Motivation

Having worked her way through her own studies, Kanouff understands how critical financial assistance can be. She recalls not fully grasping available scholarship opportunities during her time at UCF. Her personal journey fuels her commitment to ensuring that students who exhibit skills and determination have clear paths to fulfilling careers.

Building Lifelong Connections

In addition to financial aid, she encourages students to cultivate lasting relationships with their professors, as she did with her advisor, Ahmed Zayed, during her graduate studies. Their bond has endured through the years, and Zayed’s guidance was instrumental in her academic and professional journey.

Kanouff’s strong foundation in mathematics provided her with the skills necessary for a successful career across varied fields, including technology and data science. She regularly participates in UCF activities, sharing insights on the importance of mathematics in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.

Expanding Opportunities Through Philanthropy

Kanouff’s commitment is aligned with UCF’s Go For Launch campaign, which aims to enhance student opportunities and drive discovery. Rod Grabowski, UCF’s senior vice president for advancement, highlights how Kanouff’s generosity exemplifies the impact alumni can have on future generations.

Kanouff believes that it’s not solely the university’s responsibility to support students. Alumni, friends, and industry partners can play significant roles in guiding students through mentorship, financial contributions, and by fostering a supportive community.

Conclusion

“Mathematics teaches us how to solve complex problems, but supporting students helps create opportunities for them,” Kanouff states, highlighting the collective responsibility to guide students toward their futures. Through her vision and investments, she is shaping a legacy that empowers students at UCF to realize their full potential.
