UW’s Student Exchange Initiative with Hanoi University of Science and Technology Wraps Up Its Second Successful Year

The University of Wyoming’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences proudly hosted seven students from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) this summer for a four-week internship program. This initiative, created by interim dean Danny Dale, aims to foster research exchanges between Vietnam and Wyoming, enhancing the quality of future graduate applications from international students.

During the program, students from HUST engaged in various research projects across multiple laboratories, working under the guidance of faculty members such as Alex Petrovic, TeYu Chien, and Yu-Tsung “Rem” Tsai in physics, along with others in chemistry, computer science, and electrical engineering. The interns appreciated the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience with state-of-the-art equipment, something they lacked at their home institution.

In addition to their research, students explored Wyoming’s cultural and natural landscapes, enjoying trips to events like the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo and the Snowy Range mountains. Many interns reported feeling welcomed by their lab mates, highlighting the program’s supportive atmosphere. The positive feedback reflects a strong desire among participants to recommend the program to future students at HUST, showcasing the lasting impact of this cross-cultural exchange.
