On October 1, 2026, Adam Gonzalez, President and CEO of the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP), delivered a keynote address at the Encuentro Internacional Empresarial 2026. This significant event was organized by CANACINTRA and the Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation, spanning three days in Brownsville and Matamoros.
Gonzalez’s presentation focused on the regional economic outlook and the development opportunities available along the Texas–Mexico border, reinforcing COSTEP’s commitment to enhancing binational collaboration and fostering economic growth.
CANACINTRA, or Mexico’s National Chamber of the Transformation Industry, represents Mexico’s industrial sector and plays a vital role in promoting competitiveness, productivity, technological innovation, and partnerships among industry, government, and educational institutions.
The Encuentro Internacional Empresarial featured a full program aimed at connecting business leaders through panel discussions, company visits, networking activities, and even a golf tournament. COSTEP highlighted its goals of building partnerships and exploring business opportunities between the adjacent border cities.
Gonzalez leads initiatives to position Rio South Texas as a prime destination for industrial investment and business expansion. His work connects economic development organizations, manufacturers, and educational institutions across seven Texas counties and ten municipalities in Tamaulipas.
The collaboration between COSTEP and CANACINTRA includes a memorandum of understanding established on July 29, 2025, to attract investment, enhance supply chains, and facilitate Mexican companies entering the U.S. market.
Moreover, Gonzalez has introduced the Rio South Texas Region Industrial Data System to compile manufacturing information across the region. This platform aims to identify industrial capabilities and support investment promotion and regional planning.
At a previous event, Gonzalez underscored the importance of collaboration, saying, “I think together we can continue building the border of the future,” highlighting the shared goal of enhancing manufacturing and workforce development across borders.
