Microsoft is expanding its Auto SR (Super Resolution) feature to Intel Core Ultra Series 3-based PCs, enhancing the gaming experience by allowing lower resolution rendering, followed by NPU-based upscaling. This method aims to provide smoother frame rates while preserving visual fidelity, as explained by Microsoft’s Stefan Bojanic. Initially available only on Snapdragon X-based devices, Auto SR is now accessible on Intel’s x86 chipsets.
Currently, users can download the Auto Super Resolution Package from the Microsoft Store, with the feature optimized for 800p and supporting up to 1080p. It boosts in-game settings, achieving approximately 15% higher frame rates and compatibility across various games without requiring specific support. The technology is particularly effective for texture-heavy games.
Microsoft encourages users to test Auto SR with titles like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Control, highlighting its potential impact on visual quality and performance. The company hints at future support for other chipsets, possibly including AMD’s, as they continue to enhance super resolution capabilities.
