Gilbert Resident Transforms ALS Diagnosis into Purpose via Gaming

In Gilbert, AZ, 29-year-old Jorge de Cardenas is turning his passion for video games into a powerful advocacy tool after being diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in June. With support from his younger brother Daniel and his wife Angely, he launched the Twitch channel “GAMINGwithALS,” where he shares insights on living with the disease while gaming.

Jorge, a licensed behavior analyst who previously worked with children with autism, aims to raise awareness about ALS and has exceeded his $10,000 fundraising goal for ALS research through ALS Arizona. He emphasizes the importance of using his platform to educate younger audiences about ALS, stating, “I feel like ALS needs a voice.”

Despite the challenges of his diagnosis, Jorge and his family remain committed to positivity and support as they navigate this new chapter in their lives. The community can join him at the Scottsdale Walk ALS on November 7 at Salt River Fields.
