President Trump to Address UN General Assembly on Wars, Energy, Economy
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. His address will focus on international conflicts, energy markets, and global trade challenges.
Trump aims to highlight his administration’s handling of ongoing wars, particularly in Iran and Ukraine, and the uncertainty affecting world trade and the economy.
In his previous address, Trump claimed that the U.S. had effectively “demolished” Iran’s nuclear capabilities. With the war continuing, he is expected to reiterate a similar message, asserting that Iran will not succeed in developing nuclear weapons.
The Trump administration maintains that a significant amount of oil and gas continues to flow through the Strait of Hormuz, although global oil supplies remain below pre-war levels, causing disruptions in energy markets.
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Mike Waltz, indicated that the discussions would encompass the importance of freedom of navigation and commerce in vital shipping routes, such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal.
Trump is also anticipated to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with both sides targeting energy infrastructure, and optimism regarding potential progress in resolving the situation.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Trump plans to meet with various world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez. This will be their first in-person meeting since the military operation that removed former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. The U.S. is looking to engage in profitable agreements regarding Venezuelan oil.
Additional planned meetings include discussions with the newly elected British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
While Iranian leaders will also attend the General Assembly, it remains uncertain whether Trump will engage with them directly.
Lastly, Trump may address concerns surrounding artificial intelligence and its potential implications for society.
