Cate Blanchett recently made a heartfelt request for attendees of her stage show, Electra/Persona, at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre in London. After a performance, she urged the audience to refrain from using their phones during the show to ensure everyone remains present and experiences the performance fully.
Blanchett, dressed in her stage attire, acknowledged the audience’s desire to capture the moment but emphasized that filming can detract from future audiences’ experiences. She expressed her appreciation for the audience’s understanding, highlighting the importance of maintaining focus on the stage.
Electra/Persona, directed by Benedict Andrews, combines Sophocles’ Electra with Ingmar Bergman’s Persona and focuses on themes of identity. The play runs until October 10, featuring Blanchett alongside Nina Hoss, with their roles alternating based on a coin toss.
