The recent launch of the Senate Bipartisan Science and Innovation Caucus by Sens. John Hickenlooper (D-Co.) and Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) aims to support U.S. scientific research and innovation while addressing key issues surrounding AI policy. Hickenlooper highlighted the urgency of examining AI regulation amid global competition, particularly with nations like China. He emphasized the necessity of avoiding potential dangers posed by uncontrolled AI advancements.
The caucus plans to tackle a broad range of topics, including the economic and national security implications of scientific research and innovation. McCormick noted that America’s distinctiveness arises from substantial investments in science and the promotion of high-level entrepreneurship.
This initiative comes as House Democrats are considering establishing a select committee on AI, contingent on the outcomes of the upcoming midterm elections.
