RADFORD – TripStop, an owner-operated company with over 30 locations in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, is set to establish a modern travel center on approximately three acres acquired from the Radford Economic Development Authority at Interstate 81 Exit 105 in Radford, Virginia. The investment in this project is expected to total around $5 million, marking a significant commitment to the Exit I05 corridor and the City of Radford.

The new location aims to serve Radford residents, interstate travelers, and professional drivers, enhancing one of the City’s key gateways. The Radford Economic Development Authority has worked closely with TripStop from initial discussions through the development process. Kim Repass, the Economic Development Director, has been instrumental in facilitating this project, which is anticipated to generate 25-40 local jobs and spur economic growth.

Kim Repass stated, “We are excited about the opportunity to welcome TripStop to Radford. A modern travel center at Exit 105 will provide valuable services to residents and visitors, while creating new local jobs and generating additional economic activity.”

TripStop plans to operate the facility as a long-term investment, envisioning a structure that combines convenience store services with amenities for motorists and professional drivers. The approximately 5,000-square-foot center is expected to include:

  • Gasoline and diesel fueling
  • Dedicated truck parking
  • Two hot-food/quick-service restaurant offerings
  • A minimum of two driver showers
  • Electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  • Convenience store/retail section

Abram Williams, Chair of the Economic Development Authority, remarked, “This is a tremendous win for the City of Radford… Through the EDA’s efforts, we were able to help make this project possible. TripStop is the type of investment we wanted to see at Exit 105.”

The travel center project is designed to boost traffic and commerce in Radford, encouraging visitors to stop and spend money in the city. It is expected to contribute significantly to Radford’s tax base in the long term through ongoing operations.

Sagar Patadia, Vice President of Retail Operations at TripStop, added, “We’re proud to bring a new TripStop travel center to Radford and make a long-term investment in this community… Our mission is to make every trip better by delivering exceptional convenience and hospitality.”

The proposed travel center is seen as a pivotal enhancement to the Interstate 81 Exit I05 corridor, promising to serve as a vital gateway into Radford for years to come.
