Chip City shuts down all outlets following extensive growth period.

Chip City, a New York-based cookie chain, has announced the closure of all its locations nationwide. This decision marks a significant turnaround for the company, which expanded rapidly from a single store in Astoria, Queens, to multiple states and attracted extensive investment. Despite efforts to stabilize amidst economic challenges, Chip City expressed gratitude to its employees and loyal customers as it shut down operations after ten years.

The chain, known for its oversized cookies and a rotating menu of over 180 flavors, had received a $10 million investment in 2022 from Enlightened Hospitality Investments, linked to restaurateur Danny Meyer. At the time, the company was gearing up for further growth, operating 14 locations.

Recent developments have included a legal dispute involving co-founder and former CEO Peter Phillips, who alleges he was unpaid for compensation and benefits after his departure in March. The company’s social media had recently promoted seasonal cookies, indicating a focus on marketing despite the looming closure.
