BRICS Marketplace Links Cultures via Traditional Artisanship

The 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi includes a special cultural exhibition running from September 10-15. This event showcases the rich cultural diversity of BRICS member and partner countries, featuring artisans, designers, and companies that display authentic handicrafts, textiles, and art. Visitors can also participate in master classes and performances that highlight various artistic traditions.

A notable installation at the bazaar is Confluence: Patterns of Unity, which symbolizes the shared values and resilience of different cultures through a woven sphere representing each participating country. The centerpiece advocates for the notion of “one world, one family.”

Kazakh artisan Togzhan Babiyeva is among those representing her country, merging traditional and contemporary craft techniques in her work. Each piece she creates is imbued with cultural significance. One artwork features a traditional Kazakh talisman, symbolizing a woman’s vital role in family life.

Riyaz Ahmad, a master of Kashmiri papier-mâché, displays the traditional craft’s intricacy, while Yang Longmei presents China’s bamboo weaving heritage, blending aesthetic tradition with modern design practices.

Through this multicultural bazaar, the event fosters artistic appreciation and strengthens bonds among the participating nations, emphasizing unity and shared cultural roots.
