Milwaukee Family of Ten Forced Out by Kitchen Fire; Coworker Offers Shelter

A kitchen fire in South Milwaukee on Tuesday displaced a family of 10, comprising six adults, four children, and three dogs. Alice Cox, who was inside the house when the inferno ignited in the ground floor kitchen, expressed her heartbreak over losing the home her daughter grew up in.

Cox credited her dogs for guiding her to safety during the incident. Fire departments from South Milwaukee, Cudahy, St. Francis, Oak Creek, and Milwaukee responded swiftly, managing to extinguish the fire quickly. However, the family is currently staying with a friend, Jackie Anderson, who opened her home to accommodate all ten family members and their pets.

Despite the tight living conditions, Anderson has expressed that the experience has fostered a sense of home for everyone involved. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist the Cox family in recovering and finding temporary housing, with Cox expressing deep gratitude for the community’s support.
