Pet Adoption Event Canceled Due to Extreme Heat
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Heartland News) – The pet adoption event scheduled for the SEMO District Fair this Saturday has been canceled due to extreme heat conditions.
Southeast Missouri Pets announced that prioritizing animal safety led to this unfortunate decision. Jeena Roy, the volunteer and events coordinator, emphasized that dogs can overheat quickly, especially during outdoor events in high temperatures.
Mobile adoption events are crucial as they connect dogs and cats with potential adopters who may not visit the shelter otherwise. “It’s an excellent opportunity for these dogs to be seen… by more eyes,” Roy said, highlighting how fair-goers might discover a new pet unexpectedly.
For those interested in adopting, SEMO Pets is participating in a Bissell Pet Foundation adoption special until September 30. Qualified dogs are available for $50, and cats for $25. To adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate, visit SEMO Pets’ website.
