Star-studded gathering benefits arts initiatives for Detroit youth

The Coney: A Celebration of Arts Education in Detroit

DETROIT – An exciting event featuring comedy, music, and celebrity guests is set to take place at The Coney, aimed at supporting arts education and creative opportunities for Detroit’s youth. This initiative, spearheaded by actor and comedian Marc Evan Jackson in collaboration with the Children’s Foundation of Michigan, seeks to enhance community engagement in developing children’s health and access to the arts.

Andrew Stein, CEO of the Children’s Foundation of Michigan, emphasized the necessity of arts education, stating, “The arts are not just a nice-to-have. They are essential and critical, and a key ingredient to what makes a child healthy.” Jackson echoed this sentiment, asserting that arts education is fundamental to human development, not merely an elective.

So far, the event has successfully raised $2.6 million for arts education in Detroit. Future grants will assist organizations of varying sizes, including grassroots initiatives. This year’s lineup features notable talents such as Tim Meadows, J.K. Simmons, Sam Richardson, Tony Hawk, and Amber Ruffin.

Attendees can expect a variety of entertainment, including music, comedy, karaoke surprises, and possibly a Coney dog-eating contest. The Coney is not just a celebration; it’s an investment in the city’s creative future and its young artists.
