FIFA President Gianni Infantino advocates for a ‘dialogue-oriented culture’ as demands for his resignation persist.

Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s president, has pledged to promote a culture of openness within the organization. Following backlash over his proposed $4.2 billion World Cup sell-off, Infantino announced he would facilitate an independent review of FIFA’s governance. He seeks to engage with the global soccer community, including FIFA’s 211 member federations, through a council meeting on October 15.

FIFA, based in Switzerland and holding significant cash reserves after a successful men’s World Cup in North America, has seen internal dissent, particularly from vice presidents connected to UEFA and other regions. Infantino highlighted the importance of dialogue and respect among soccer leaders, stressing that his goal is to improve decision-making, rather than to chase headlines.

He faced criticism for pushing substantial commercial initiatives without adequate consultation, leading to a significant crisis comparable to the scandals of 2015. Infantino’s close ties to former US President Donald Trump and plans to sell FIFA’s commercial rights sparked further controversy. Ahead of a vital election in March, he expressed a commitment to listening to soccer officials for the sport’s growth.
