Boyd ISD Superintendent Rejects Allegations of Hazing Following Felony Charges Against Four Students

The Boyd ISD superintendent has denied claims of a culture of hazing within the district following the recent arrest of four Boyd High School students for an alleged hazing incident. Two of the arrested students, both 17 years old, are being charged as adults with felonies related to bodily injury and unlawful restraint.

The incident involved a 14-year-old victim who was reportedly restrained and assaulted in the boys’ locker room. A coach, who heard the commotion, later stated that it should have been handled internally. The superintendent, Tom Woody, asserted that this was the first complaint of hazing in his tenure and emphasized the need to refrain from jumping to conclusions while investigations are ongoing.

Attorneys for one of the charged students claim that similar behaviors had been normalized at the school for years, suggesting a systemic issue. Meanwhile, police have clarified that what occurred was not typical “boys being boys” behavior but rather an assault. The investigation is set to continue, with further charges potentially being filed.
