BYHEALTH Launches New Protein Powder to Meet Evolving Consumer Needs in China

Recently, BYHEALTH launched its upgraded Zhenzuan Protein Powder, enhancing the original formula with a protein content increase from 80% to 90%. This product aims to cater to the evolving needs of consumers seeking higher quality protein supplements.

Like its predecessor, the new protein powder maintains a blend of animal protein and soy protein in a 2:3 ratio, featuring non-genetically modified soy protein isolate and imported whey protein isolate from New Zealand. This upgrade aligns perfectly with the growing demand for quality nutrition.

The product was featured at the recent Bo’ao Food for Health Science Conference and Expo 2026 (FHE 2026) held in Hainan, China, from March 11 to 15.

During an interview with NutraIngredients at the expo, Dr. He Ruikun, deputy director of BYHEALTH Nutrition and Health Research Institute, discussed the rationale behind the enhanced protein powder, noting it was developed to address the evolving preferences of consumers.

“Protein powder is one of BYHEALTH’s flagship items,” said Dr. He. “Throughout the past three decades, our protein powder has become synonymous with BYHEALTH in the minds of consumers, securing a leading position in China. We continually strive to elevate our products.”

With rising living standards in China, consumers are increasingly prioritizing high-quality protein supplements. Many view protein as essential not just for muscle building but also for boosting the immune system.

BYHEALTH also seeks to support individuals on weight management programs. “The demand for protein supplements is on the rise. We see an increasing number of fitness enthusiasts pursuing higher quality protein to meet their needs,” Dr. He noted. “Those aiming to manage their weight often struggle with inadequate protein intake, and this presents an opportunity for us to offer top-tier protein options.”

In China, sporting events are on the rise, with approximately 100 marathons occurring each weekend last year, prompting brands like Mengniu to broaden their sports nutrition offerings.

The Chinese government has declared 2024 to 2026 as the Years of Weight Management, highlighting it as a crucial health initiative among policymakers.

Looking ahead, BYHEALTH plans to diversify its protein range in the latter half of this year to address various functional needs.

FSMP Endeavor

BYHEALTH is also venturing into the Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP) sector with the introduction of Meiyile, a nutritional powder designed for post-surgery recovery.

“As a leading brand in China’s dietary supplement industry, we recognized the need to enter this space to provide nutritional solutions not only for healthy individuals but also for those with specific medical dietary requirements,” Dr. He explained.

Essential components of this new product include whey protein concentrate, alongside multivitamins and minerals.

In fact, protein powders represent the most common type of FSMP in China, especially for the elderly, as noted by Alibaba Tmall, one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms.

“Categories such as FSMP, sleep aids, and supplements for bone and joint health are experiencing rapid growth in China. In contrast, traditional vitamin and mineral supplements, as well as nutrition for cardiovascular health and children, remain the leading segments,” stated Li Donghui, a senior expert in Health & Wellness Industry Research & Operations at Tmall, during the conference.

However, securing FSMP certification from Chinese authorities is a lengthy and costly venture, often taking up to five years.

“Our investment in creating a specialized FSMP production line, conducting rigorous research, and ensuring the use of high-quality raw materials further demonstrates our commitment to succeeding in China’s FSMP market,” Dr. He concluded.
