A Virtual Private Network (VPN) serves as a gateway for all your internet traffic, routing it through a secure server in a different location. This makes it significantly more difficult for websites, hackers, and data thieves to monitor your online activities as you navigate from one site to another.
NordVPN comes highly recommended as the top choice overall. I’ve relied on it for six years, finding it incredibly user-friendly and consistently one of the fastest VPNs I’ve tried. Another solid choice is Proton VPN, which I’ve found to be a reliable option. While its paid version performs well, it doesn’t quite match NordVPN’s speed. However, Proton VPN offers a free version that is free from the malware and spyware often associated with no-cost VPNs. If you’re cautious about spending money initially, downloading Proton VPN’s free version is a great place to start.
Quit Using Weak Passwords
Don’t stop at using a VPN; invest in a password manager. These tools generate unique and complex passwords for each of your online accounts and securely store them under a master password. With a password manager, there’s no need to remember multiple passwords or resort to easily guessable ones, which makes it far more difficult for cybercriminals to break in. Simply log in, and the password manager will autofill your email, username, or password for you.

Always remain vigilant when browsing the web. Be wary of emails that seem too good to be true, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and refrain from downloading files from unreliable sources. No amount of security technology can protect you if you overlook the most vulnerable link in the chain—the person sitting at the keyboard.
