Toyota Motor Corp. is investing $3.6 billion to establish a new car assembly line at its San Antonio plant in Texas. This move aims to offset the impact of tariffs on vehicles produced in Mexico. The new assembly line, which is set to begin operations in 2030, will shift some Tacoma pickup truck production from Baja California, Mexico, to the U.S.
The expansion is projected to generate 2,000 new jobs and boost annual manufacturing capacity by approximately 150,000 vehicles. Ted Ogawa, president of Toyota Motor North America, emphasized the company’s commitment to American manufacturing through this expansion. The San Antonio plant, operational since 2006, currently manufactures the Tundra truck and Sequoia SUV.
