Welcome to the Next Chapter of Xtreme Fitness Gym
Xtreme Fitness Gym has recently embarked on an exciting new journey. On Wednesday, February 18, the ownership of the beloved Beaumont fitness center officially changed hands. Gil and Ivonne Sanchez passed the baton to Adam Castro, who is already known locally as the owner of Nutrishop Beaumont. This momentous occasion was celebrated with a farewell lunch attended by devoted members and supporters, all gathering to honor the outgoing owners and welcome the new leadership.
This gathering offered longtime members a chance to express their gratitude to the Sanchez family for their unwavering dedication over the past 22 years. Guests shared cherished memories, reflected on the gym’s evolution, and warmly welcomed Castro as the new custodian of this iconic fitness haven.
“I’ve poured my heart and sweat into this place. Growing up in a gym makes this more than just a business for me. I’ve built friendships here, yet I’m ready for retirement. I trust Adam and his family will take excellent care of this gym,” said Gil Sanchez.
Established in 1982, Xtreme Fitness began its life as an athletic club after Marilyn and Greg Barker transformed a former real estate office into a community gym. Over the years, the facility evolved into a local fitness destination renowned for its old-school atmosphere and strong community ties. The gym is well-equipped, featuring traditional iron weights, dedicated cardio and abdominal rooms, and a welcoming ambiance.
“Coming back here always feels like home. Gil has taken amazing care of this place. When we opened, it was much smaller, and my husband built everything here,” recalled Marilyn Barker.
Xtreme Fitness has catered to a diverse membership, from seasoned lifters to those just beginning their fitness journeys. The gym’s inviting environment and supportive culture have fostered lasting friendships and a sense of accountability among its members.
During their tenure, the Sanchezes successfully preserved the gym’s unique identity while accommodating its growing membership. Their hands-on management style and personal connections offered a close-knit community atmosphere that regulars have come to cherish.
Now, under new ownership, exciting plans for thoughtful expansion are on the horizon. Castro aims to maintain the gym’s traditional character while gradually implementing enhancements to enrich the overall experience.
“I plan on making upgrades, but I want to keep that old-school vibe. When you walk in, everyone—men and women—has a shared energy. It’s about hard work, and that attitude is refreshing. Although some see it as a ‘bro’ gym, our women are equally dedicated. It’s truly a unique environment,” Castro stated.
As the gym enters this new phase, both Castro and the Sanchez family share a common vision: to maintain Xtreme Fitness as a supportive space for all individuals seeking to reach their health and fitness goals. With new leadership comes a renewed commitment to serve the Beaumont community while honoring the legacy built over decades.
Xtreme Fitness Gym is located at 1222 E. Sixth Street in Beaumont, and offers memberships tailored for individuals at all fitness levels. For more information on memberships and upcoming updates, visit the gym’s Instagram page @xtremefitness or contact them at 951-797-0016.
