Boston Public Market Hosts Community Art Event to Unite Artists through Local Culture – The Suffolk Journal

The Boston Public Market hosted a vibrant Community Art Party on September 23, showcasing the work of 33 local artists inspired by the city’s diverse businesses and cultures. From 5:30 to 7:30 PM, attendees enjoyed conversations, artwork displays, and samples from local vendors.

The theme, “Local Businesses,” aligned with the market’s mission to uplift and connect local vendors, artists, and the community. Design Director Shannon Velleux emphasized the meaningful connections formed among artists, highlighting both professionals and newcomers.

The event was free for artists to participate, allowing many to exhibit their work publicly for the first time. Gina Cassara, the director of vendor recruitment, noted the event’s inclusive nature, catering to various career stages. Local artist Laurel Greenfield initiated the event, continuing to promote it even after moving on.

Artist Winny Kwong showcased watercolor pieces inspired by local Asian restaurants, focusing on their food to reflect the community. Kwong aims to encourage exploration of often-overlooked areas outside Boston, such as Malden.

Overall, the Community Art Party reinforced the Boston Public Market’s mission of fostering community bonds through art and local business support, contributing to a rich cultural tapestry in Boston.
