Ford is launching an innovative AI system designed for its Pro commercial vehicle division, with the goal of boosting profits, increasing software revenue, and enhancing operational efficiency for fleet customers.
The “Ford Pro AI” platform is capable of monitoring and analyzing over 1 billion daily data points from connected commercial vehicles. It assesses various metrics such as seatbelt usage, vehicle health, route optimization, and fuel efficiency. This tool is available to Ford Pro’s 840,000 commercial subscribers at no extra charge.
Powered by Google Cloud and utilizing Ford’s proprietary data, the AI system currently operates in a prompted, read-only mode. It delivers insights without requiring service appointments. Fleet managers can swiftly identify the reasons behind warning dashboard lights, pinpoint vehicles needing maintenance, and obtain recommendations for enhancing fuel efficiency. For instance, CentiMark fleet manager Mackenzie Meis, who oversees a fleet of over 2,000 vehicles, highlighted that the system saves time by providing essential vehicle data and summaries in just minutes.
It is noteworthy that Ford Pro’s commercial fleet operations cater to a diverse clientele, including commercial businesses, government entities, and rental agencies, alongside the Super Duty large truck segment.
In the past year, Ford Pro recorded $66 billion in revenue, with earnings reaching $6.8 billion and a profit margin of 10.3%. The unit’s telematics subscriptions increased by 30%, reaching 840,000, and the number of connected commercial vehicles surged more than 40% since 2023, totaling 5.2 million worldwide.
CEO Jim Farley emphasized that diversifying revenue through software and services is a crucial growth strategy, targeting software and physical services to make up 20% of the unit’s earnings.
Ford unveiled this AI tool during Work Truck Week in Indianapolis, along with announcements regarding the 2027 Super Duty trucks, which include expanded Tremor off-road packages, new Platinum trims, and a partnership with workwear brand Carhartt.
