Eclipse Space, a startup focused on satellite platforms, recently revealed its first three satellite designs aimed at enhancing in-space capabilities:
-
CitraSat – A direct-to-device communications platform featuring an S-band phased array antenna and multi-Gbps E-band backhaul, designed for mobile device connectivity.
-
SliceSat – A high-throughput broadband platform with Ku-band phased array antennas for fast connectivity.
-
SurgeSat – Tailored for in-orbit computation, it boasts dual solar arrays generating 100 kW of peak power.
CEO Derek Huerta indicated that while the company’s initial focus is on commercial markets, they intend to leverage lessons from the D2D sector to branch into broadband and in-orbit compute. Eclipse’s approach contrasts with SpaceX’s Starlink by using a partnership model for manufacturing, akin to Apple’s outsourcing of iPhone production.
