2026 Readers Choice winner: An East Multnomah County coffee purveyor is about more than what goes in the cup.
At Country Coffee — Highway 26, every interaction begins with a smile. This warm and inviting atmosphere is as crucial as the beverages and treats served, ensuring that caffeine enthusiasts and cozy drink lovers alike leave satisfied.
“You make people’s day. There is so much going on in every customer’s life, and you have this big impact with just a cup of coffee,” shared Hailee Rondema, owner of a trio of Country Coffee locations.
For the 13-person team along Highway 26, a self-described sisterhood of baristas, the focus is on building connections with each customer.
“We treat every customer in the window like family,” Rondema emphasized.
“I love being there for people on their happy and sad days,” added Shaylee O’Hara, a barista at Country Coffee. “It is the best feeling in the world to be a small part of their day.”
This approach has garnered yet another wave of accolades for the cherished establishment. Country Coffee — Highway 26 has been recognized as Best Coffee Shop (drive-thru), Best Barista (Shaylee O’Hara), and Business of the Year in The Outlook’s 2026 Readers Choice.
“Being named Business of the Year, I am mind blown,” Rondema said with a laugh. “There are thousands of amazing businesses, so it is incredible to see so many people think of us. We work hard and prioritize our customers.”
“I couldn’t wrap my head around winning the award,” O’Hara said. “It is crazy to think so many people know my name. It is amazing, I am speechless.”
Country Coffee has a total of 18 locations served across the region. The Highway 26 branch at 3250 SE 11th St., which received significant voter support, was established in 2019.
It offers all the essentials of a great coffee shop—brewed coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, chai, matcha, cold brews, fruit smoothies, Italian sodas, hot chocolates, steamers, tea, and energy drink-infused options. However, its signature drinks, available hot, iced, or blended, stand out.
Highlights include the “Boots & Spurs Mocha,” a delightful blend of white and dark chocolate; the “Cowboy Latte” featuring Irish cream; “The Bucking Bronco,” with Kahlua and chocolate; and the “Horseshoe Latte,” which combines caramel and cinnamon—O’Hara’s personal favorite. All beverages are available in sizes ranging from 12 to 32 ounces.
For those looking for food, Country Coffee serves breakfast sandwiches on bagels or croissants, protein bars, oatmeal, scones, muffins, coffee cake, donuts, cookies, mini loaves, and chocolate-covered beans. Gluten-free pastries are also available.

Rondema has a long-standing connection with Country Coffee, having started as a barista at the Boring location after founder Melanie Ward acquired the espresso stand in 2013. She launched her first franchise (Highway 26) over six years ago.
“I couldn’t do any of this without the girls,” she said. “They work so hard and have the passion to make this place special.”
O’Hara entered the business after a stint in the restaurant industry. She quickly discovered her love for customer interaction, having been a regular at the Boring Country Coffee when Rondema was a barista.
“I grew up with Hailee; she was my babysitter, so I was always asking my mom to take me to the Boring stand to see her,” O’Hara recalled with a laugh.
When the pandemic struck and she was laid off from her restaurant job, it was the perfect opportunity to join the Country Coffee team as a barista.
“Shaylee was the perfect fit because she is bubbly, has a big personality, and goes the extra mile,” Rondema praised.
“I fell in love with the community and love being part of a small business,” O’Hara expressed. “The whole team gets along so well; we are like sisters.”
“Working here fills my heart with joy,” she added.
