News 12 | Connecticut | Specialists Uncover Three Widespread Myths Held by Dog Owners Regarding Their Pets

Pet experts in Old Bridge are urging dog owners to deepen their understanding of their pets as Responsible Dog Ownership Month continues and National Dog Week approaches.

Arushi Daggumati, owner of Hounds Town Old Bridge, and manager Miranda Bobrowski recently shared three key insights that they believe every dog owner should know.

1. Wagging Tails Don’t Always Mean Happiness:
A common misconception is that a wagging tail indicates a happy dog. Bobrowski emphasizes that dogs communicate through their entire body. Owners should pay attention to a dog’s ears, eyes, and general posture to gauge its feelings accurately.

2. Dogs Need More Than a Daily Walk:
Daggumati points out that while walks are important, they might not provide the comprehensive stimulation dogs need. Activities that include physical exercise, mental challenges, and social interaction, such as those offered in dog daycare, are vital for their well-being.

3. Consistency is Key:
Both experts stress that dogs thrive on routine. Changes in their daily schedule can be stressful and confusing for them.

By understanding these signals, owners can become more responsible pet parents and foster stronger relationships with their dogs. Observing how dogs communicate within daycare settings can offer valuable insight into their needs and social behaviors.
