Initial Plans for Fight Night Relaunch Have Been Scrapped

Fight Night’s Uncertain Future

Since 2011, EA’s Fight Night boxing franchise has been dormant, despite years of discussions about a potential comeback. Initially, there were plans for a release following EA Sports UFC 6, but these have since changed direction.

Recently revealed on Insider Gaming Weekly, sources indicated that the original plans for a new Fight Night game were cancelled about a year ago. At that point, development on the project had already been put on hold.

However, the series isn’t entirely out of the picture. With Saudi Arabia’s investment in the company, there is potential for a total relaunch of the series. The country has shown a strong interest in boxing—owning The Ring and funding major fights—suggesting new discussions may emerge about reviving the franchise. This time, though, any attempts would need to ensure financial viability, especially given the $20 billion debt incurred from the recent sale of EA to a group led by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
