Washington University School of Medicine’s Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics (I2DB) is excited to launch a new, innovative program that is responsive to the evolving requirements of both healthcare and data science. The master’s program in biomedical data science and AI (BDS-AI)—one of the few programs of its kind in the United States—has begun accepting applications for full-time students since December, with part-time options available until July 15.
This newly structured BDS-AI program integrates biostatistics, data science, and biomedical informatics into a cohesive degree path. It replaces previous standalone master’s degrees in biostatistics and biomedical informatics to emphasize the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in contemporary healthcare.
According to Po-Yin Yen, the deputy director for education at I2DB, the program’s design provides students with the opportunity to specialize in one of three concentrations while also selecting elective courses from the other fields.
“The new BDS-AI master’s program will furnish students with adaptable skills that can be applied across a variety of career paths,” Yen noted. “Our goal is to equip students to effectively utilize AI tools and interdisciplinary skills that are increasingly sought after in healthcare and health decision-making.”
The program’s flexible curriculum, alongside options for part-time enrollment and evening classes, aims to support working professionals seeking to advance their education.
