In recent advancements in reproductive technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool to streamline the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. According to Dr. Manika Khanna, Chairperson and Managing Director of Gaudium IVF, these innovations can expedite pregnancy and significantly lower costs for patients.

During an event in New Delhi on April 1, 2026, Dr. Khanna introduced two groundbreaking AI tools: the Sperm Identification Device (SiD) and the Embryo Ranking Intelligent Classification Assistant (ERICA). These tools have been developed by IVF 2.0, a pioneering embryology innovation organization based in the UK, founded by renowned embryologists Dr. Jacques Cohen and Dr. Alejandro Chave.

SiD optimizes sperm selection during fertility treatments by identifying the most viable sperm for fertilization, which enhances the quality of blastocyst formation. Conversely, ERICA aids embryologists by providing an objective, data-driven ranking for embryo selection by analyzing static images of blastocysts based on key morphological and developmental features.

Dr. Khanna noted that these tools are enriched with genome sequencing data from India, elevating their effectiveness in critical stages of the IVF process. Combined, these non-invasive technologies enhance embryologists’ decision-making and reduce variability in outcomes. Early clinical observations suggest that integrating these AI systems could significantly boost fertilization and blastocyst development rates.

With nearly 15% of Indians experiencing infertility, attributed to factors such as stress, environmental pollutants, unhealthy diets, tobacco use, and unverified fitness supplements, the role of these tools is increasingly vital. Dr. Khanna emphasized that by improving precision and consistency, AI can decrease the need for repeated IVF cycles. This not only alleviates the emotional, physical, and financial toll on patients but also instills confidence among clinicians and stakeholders.

The advanced AI tools analyze samples across 2.5 million parameters, assisting embryologists in selecting the optimal sperm and embryo. As a result, Dr. Khanna mentioned that AI could enhance the first-cycle IVF success rate by 5 to 7%.

While these innovations help reduce time and costs associated with IVF treatments, it’s important to note that the base price for a single IVF cycle at Gaudium IVF starts at around ₹2,00,000, exclusive of additional expenses for more complicated cases.

In conclusion, the introduction of AI tools like SiD and ERICA represents a significant step forward in enhancing fertility treatments. These technologies hold promise not only for improving success rates but also for making IVF more accessible and less burdensome for patients in terms of time and costs.
