Celebrating 90 Years of Greek Heritage in Spokane This Weekend | News

The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Spokane is set to host its 90th Annual Greek Festival this week, celebrating authentic Greek culture, cuisine, and traditions. Running from Thursday to Saturday, the festival welcomes attendees from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 1703 North Washington Street, with free entry for all ages.

Festival Chair Anna Haugen emphasized the significance of this milestone, noting that it is the longest-running Greek festival in the country. Guests can savor traditional dishes such as gyros, loukoumades, and baklava, plus enjoy activities like dancing performances by the Opa Dancers, with opportunities to participate in traditional Greek dances on Thursday and Friday.

New attractions for this year include a raffle featuring prizes like Greek dance lessons and a commemorative 90-year memorial wall that highlights pivotal moments and figures from the festival’s history.

Longtime festival attendees, like Eleni Schumacher, reflect on the emotional connections and memories associated with the event. The festival also focuses on community support, with a portion of proceeds going to fire relief efforts for those impacted by recent regional fires.
