Mourinho: “Derbies are defined by their history, culture, and the fervor of fans, players, and coaches.”

José Mourinho appeared in the press room at Real Madrid City to discuss the upcoming La Liga derby on matchday seven, set to take place at the Metropolitano. He emphasized the significance of derbies, highlighting their connection to history, culture, and the fervor of fans, players, and managers. Despite acknowledging the intense atmosphere, he reminded everyone that it’s fundamentally a league match worth three points, which must be approached pragmatically.

Regarding maintaining form, Mourinho expressed uncertainty but indicated strong intentions from both himself and the players to improve. He noted the need for ongoing development, especially considering the team’s recent formation.

On the topic of a penalty decision, he refrained from elaborating, indicating that it’s too late to dwell on past discussions, and expressed confidence in the appointed official’s experience for the match.

When asked about speaking after Atlético’s coach Simeone, Mourinho claimed not to know the schedule and questioned whether that timing provides any actual advantage.

Finally, he asserted his daily motivation, stating that it remains constant regardless of the opponent, whether it’s Villarreal, a Clásico, or a derby. Mourinho emphasized that while derbies and Clásicos are deeply embedded in the culture, his motivation doesn’t fluctuate based on the match type.
