Exploring the Rich Landscape of French Art: A Preview of Carolyn Ford’s Lecture
As we immerse ourselves in the world of art and creativity, one cannot help but be captivated by the cultural elegance encapsulated within French artistry. On February 23rd at 10 a.m. in the Dickson Assembly Room of Turner Hall, LaGrange College will host Associate Professor of Art and Design Carolyn Ford for a lecture titled “The Art of France.” This presentation is part of the popular 3D Journeys series, which invites the local community to “Discover, Discuss, and Develop” through engaging lectures and optional travel experiences.
The current series spotlights the “charm and beauty” of France, a topic that promises to inspire and enlighten participants. “The beauty of France is reflected in its art, making this a fascinating lecture topic,” says Carolyn Wynens, a co-chair of the 3D Journeys committee. “Whether you plan to travel or not, we encourage you to join us for an enriching and stimulating morning.”
A Journey of Resilience and New Beginnings
Professor Ford’s professional journey took an unexpected turn over the past year. Previously, she had dedicated 22 years to her role as an art professor at Limestone University in Gaffney, S.C. Despite her successes—chairing the art department and earning tenure—a sudden decision by university trustees to shut down the institution left her and over 450 colleagues unexpectedly unemployed.
“I was devastated,” Ford recalls. Having established deep roots in the Gaffney community, the news came as a shock. However, fate smiled upon her when she discovered an opportunity at LaGrange College that felt like an answered prayer. “I was hoping for a place to fall in love with again,” she shares.
Impressed by LaGrange’s beautiful campus and exceptional art facilities, Ford quickly settled into her new role. Known for her vibrant personality, she enthusiastically engaged in both her teaching responsibilities and community life.
“I love to constantly mix and mingle,” Ford states. The college’s intimate setting allows her to form meaningful connections, an aspect she deeply values. During her first visit, she noted the strong community involvement with the college, highlighting a flourishing arts scene alive with participation and enthusiasm.

Professor Carolyn Ford’s upcoming lecture promises to be an impactful dive into the essence of French art, inviting attendees not only to learn but also to engage with the broader themes of beauty and creativity.
