Catching Fate’s Fortune: A Guide

Believing In an Absurdity

In today’s rapidly changing world, where fortunes are made and lost, understanding the dynamics of wealth distribution is crucial. This article draws on the thoughts of MN Gordon, President and Founder of Direct Expressions, shared at the company’s recent holiday gathering.

“Fate throws fortune, but not everyone catches,” suggests a Polish proverb. It seems that many don’t even attempt to cast their nets.

Recently, Forbes highlighted that six members of the Walton family—founders of Wal-Mart—hold more wealth than the bottom 30 percent of Americans combined. This indicates a significant failure among the lower tiers to reach for opportunities.

Currently, many lament the disparities in wealth and strategize ways to redistribute what others have earned, instead of creating genuine value. Our intention is not to criticize those at the bottom for their perceived shortcomings, but to showcase a broader misconception prevalent in society.

We refer specifically to the multitude of individuals who, through political maneuvering and government mandates, presume they can thrive at the expense of others. In essence, they embrace an absurdity. But that’s just the beginning…

Even more ludicrous than these professional dependents are the big bankers, who, through risky gambles with borrowed capital, render their institutions bankrupt only to be salvaged by federal aid, allowing them to repeat the cycle.

The Incredible and Outrageous World We Live In

Perhaps more outrageous still are the politicians and so-called advocates, who create unkeepable promises to constituents while funding their agendas through foreign borrowing. Their misguided acts of enforced generosity have transformed many capable individuals into state dependents.

Yet, taking the top prize for absurdity is the Federal Reserve, which perpetuates this system by conjuring vast amounts of digital currency from thin air and injecting it into the economy. The questions of the source and recipients of this money are moral quandaries we won’t engage with today.

The absurdity of it all is staggering. And yet, this is the world we inhabit, explaining why we pursue our endeavors. We’ll delve deeper into this shortly, but first, let’s clarify a vital distinction…

Unlike your typical Congressman, we don’t shoulder the responsibility of transforming the world. We have no illusion that we can stop global warming with regulations or reduce unemployment by simply printing money. We refrain from dictating how our neighbors should live their lives, from lightbulb choices to health insurance options. In short, we do not intrude into the private choices of others.

Each day, we clock in, absorb the news, and immerse ourselves in our work. While there may be more lucrative or esteemed professions, has there ever been a job more enjoyable than this?

We have yet to discover one.

How to Catch Fate’s Fortune

One of the great advantages we experience is an abundance of resources. Everywhere we turn, we encounter remarkable and astonishing opportunities. Yet, without the ability to leverage them into a business, they remain just that—opportunities.

We must remember our responsibilities: our need to eat and provide for our families. To date, our publishing efforts have fared poorly in terms of financial success.

Nonetheless, we are convinced that our years of writing have not been entirely fruitless. Perspective is key in this regard.

While some variables remain beyond our control, we focus our energy on those we can influence. We embrace each day as it comes, determined to find enjoyment in what we do.

Conversely, we actively work to enhance the areas within our grasp—such as expanding our subscriber base, consistently producing engaging and valuable content, and offering a range of paid publications filled with exciting possibilities. Moreover, we remain poised to catch any fortune that fate may toss our way.

Sincerely,

MN Gordon
