S. Korean Casinos Enhance Operations with AI Tools

In recent news, several South Korean casino operators have shared updates regarding their implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance operational monitoring and auditing processes. These advancements signal a growing trend in the gaming industry towards integrating intelligent systems to improve efficiency and accountability.

Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL), operator of three foreigner-only casinos under the Seven Luck brand, has announced that it has successfully completed the technical verification of an innovative AI-powered casino game monitoring system called “VisionEye.”

GKL, affiliated with the public-sector Korea Tourism Organization, revealed in a recent press release that VisionEye was developed as part of a national initiative aimed at transforming public-sector services through AI technology.

The specifics regarding whether VisionEye was developed internally remain unclear. GGRAsia reached out to GKL for additional details; however, the company stated that it is not providing any further comments at this time.

In addition, Kangwon Land Inc, the only public-sector operator allowed to run a locals casino in South Korea at the Kangwon Land resort, announced earlier this year the launch of its “Smart Audit System.”

This system utilizes machine learning to analyze operational data for potential risks, allowing the company to effectively manage or mitigate such threats.

GKL operates two Seven Luck casinos in Seoul—one located in Gangnam and the other at Dragon City—along with a third location in the southeastern port city of Busan.

According to GKL’s recent update, VisionEye employs camera-based AI technology to conduct real-time monitoring of live gaming tables. The system is designed to recognize various actions, including chip and card handling, odds calculations, and overall game progression.

The release stated that this technology could help reduce disputes at the tables and ensure fairness in games while enhancing operational transparency. GKL believes VisionEye will help alleviate some of the routine tasks faced by dealers, allowing them to dedicate more time to customer service and table management, ultimately improving the player experience.

In September, GKL announced the establishment of an “AI innovation team” aimed at integrating AI into both casino operations and customer support functions.

GKL also mentioned plans to publicly showcase a prototype of the VisionEye system at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia Macau trade show and conference in May of this year. Following this event, the company will consider possible refinements and explore commercial opportunities abroad, particularly in Southeast Asian markets.

In a recent discussion with GGRAsia regarding the company’s growth strategy, GKL’s CEO Yoon Doo-hyun noted that VisionEye has the potential to enhance the domestic AI technology ecosystem within South Korea.

In October, during a board meeting, Kangwon Land Inc deliberated on the integration of AI into its operations as a means to drive growth, aligning with the national government’s focus on AI development.

A December press release from Kangwon Land Inc highlighted its new AI-enhanced ‘Smart Audit System,’ which provides a proactive approach to risk detection and automatically generates audit reports. This system is designed to save auditors time and enable them to concentrate on strategic initiatives.
