Trendy Supplement Recall: Three Reported Illnesses in the US

A widely-used dietary supplement has been recalled throughout the U.S. due to its involvement in a salmonella outbreak that has affected several individuals.

The Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, designed to foster healthy energy levels and facilitate restorative sleep, were recalled on Friday as indicated in a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

This recall followed evidence gathered by the CDC, revealing that seven individuals contracted Salmonella Newport, a particular strain of the bacterium, from November 7, 2025, to January 8, 2026. Of those interviewed, three reported having consumed Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules.

The capsules were packaged in white plastic bottles featuring green labels, with expiration dates extending into 2027. Consumers can identify the affected products by their unique seven-digit lot codes, which are listed by the FDA.

The recalled supplements were also available online on platforms like eBay, TikTok Shop, Amazon, Shein, and Tryrosabella.com.

Salmonella infections have been reported across seven states: Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, and Washington. Among the infected individuals, three were hospitalized, although no fatalities have been documented.

Consumers are strongly advised to discard the affected supplements immediately or return them to the store where they were purchased.

According to the FDA press release, salmonella typically causes illness “within 12 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food.” Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, and the illness can last from four to seven days.

Numerous supplements have been associated with prior salmonella outbreaks in the U.S. For example, last month, Superfoods Inc., the maker of Live it Up-brand Super Greens powder, recalled its original and wild berry flavors following reports of 45 illnesses between August and December 2025.

At least 12 individuals required hospitalization during that outbreak, with cases reported in 21 states, but fortunately, no deaths occurred.

Additionally, in September, four popular dietary supplements imported from Vallon Farm Direct in Jodhpur, India, including Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder, were recalled due to their link to a significant salmonella outbreak. At that time, there were 11 reported cases and three hospitalizations.

Of the ten individuals interviewed by CDC officials, nine noted consuming powdered dietary supplements, with six mentioning Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder as part of their diet.

Salmonella bacteria rank as the second leading cause of foodborne illnesses in the U.S., as reported by the CDC. Each year, salmonella is responsible for approximately 1.35 million illnesses, 420 deaths, and 26,500 hospitalizations.

This recall serves as a crucial reminder for consumers to stay vigilant when it comes to dietary supplements, ensuring they are informed about potential health risks. Always consult healthcare professionals if you have concerns regarding supplement safety.
