The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has recently adopted a new tech initiative to improve operational efficiency. By utilizing an AI-assisted report writing tool, the department aims to reduce administrative workload, allowing deputies to devote more time to community service.
Axon Draft One is the name of this innovative tool, which is capable of creating a preliminary narrative report based on audio captured by a deputy’s body-worn camera.
The implementation of this tool is initially focused on non-criminal calls for service, enabling effective transcription and organization of the deputy’s account, thereby simplifying the report-writing process. Deputies must articulate events and observations clearly on camera to ensure that all vital details are accurately recorded.
Before reports are submitted, deputies are required to meticulously review, edit, and approve each document. The system is equipped with built-in prompts that signal areas needing further elaboration, ensuring that the final report faithfully represents the incident in Central Florida.
“We are committed to embracing innovation and leveraging technology in ways that enhance operational efficiency,” stated Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Axon Draft One exemplifies our evolution, integrating advanced technology with appropriate training and oversight to boost efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability. Our deputies remain fully responsible for every report, and this tool enables them to concentrate more on safeguarding our community.”
All data processed through Draft One is secured within Axon’s system and is not disclosed to any public AI platforms. Initially, the tool will only be utilized for non-criminal calls for service.
In summary, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is keenly focused on modernizing their operations with AI technology. This initiative not only streamlines the report writing process but also enhances the overall efficiency of the department, allowing officers to prioritize community safety.
