7-Year-Old Boy Injured in Fire Following Failed Home Science Experiment

A 7-year-old boy named Elian Flores suffered severe burns after a fire accident while he and his 11-year-old brother, Benji, were experimenting with household items in their Florida home. The incident occurred on September 7 when they mixed hand sanitizer, soap, and rubbing alcohol before introducing a lighter, which ignited Elian’s shirt.

Elian sustained second-degree burns covering 19% of his body, particularly affecting his face, abdomen, and right arm. After receiving emergency care, he was transferred to a specialized pediatric burn facility, where he underwent critical treatment for over a week.

Despite the significant challenges he faced, including severe pain and psychological strain, Elian displayed remarkable bravery throughout his ordeal. Following hospitalization, he was discharged to return home, where he could be comforted by his family during his recovery. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Elian’s ongoing healing journey.
