Krispy Kreme’s Kosher Certification Status Changes

Krispy Kreme has recently announced a significant change regarding its kosher certification, impacting several locations. Following the loss of kosher status for six outlets in New York and New Jersey, the Kosher Supervision of America (KSA) has confirmed that all Krispy Kreme stores in Southern California are no longer under its supervision as of March 27, 2026.

A letter from Rabbi Yechezkel Auerbach, the Senior Rabbinic Coordinator at KSA, clarified that this decision was not due to any kashrus violations. Instead, the new ownership of the Southern California franchise has opted to pursue a different approach concerning kosher oversight.

This situation mirrors what transpired on the East Coast: a shift in ownership leading to differing priorities and the subsequent loss of kosher certification.

It remains uncertain whether this departure from kosher certification is a permanent one or if new ownership is merely exploring options for future oversight. Currently, KSA has not designated any alternative certification agency, nor has Krispy Kreme made public plans to engage a new certifying body in Southern California. Until further notice, all Krispy Kreme outlets in this region should be regarded as non-kosher.

This change is particularly disappointing for the Los Angeles kosher community, which has regarded Krispy Kreme under KSA as one of the few major national chains with accessible kosher offerings. Following the recent closures in New York and New Jersey, this marks a troubling trend that may foretell the end of reliable kosher options from Krispy Kreme across the country.
