A supplement referred to as a “miracle tree” by a nutritional therapist has been recalled due to potential contamination with Salmonella, a bacterium that poses serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable individuals.
Ambrosia Brands LLC voluntarily issued a recall for a significant number of its Rosabella Moringa Capsules on Friday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there have been reports of seven Salmonella infections associated with these capsules, leading to three hospitalizations.
Why It Matters
Salmonella can lead to severe and potentially fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, as stated by the FDA.
What To Know
The affected Rosabella moringa powder capsules were packaged in white plastic bottles featuring a green label. They carry various lot codes with expiration dates in 2027 and were available for purchase on the company’s website and TikTok Shop.
All impacted lots begin with the Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) number 1356 and end in either -1 or -2 after the lot code. Ambrosia Brands LLC also cautioned consumers about “unauthorized third-party sales” through sites like ebay.com and Shein, urging buyers to verify their lot numbers regardless of the purchasing platform.
“Customers who purchased the affected lots are advised to dispose of them immediately and should not consume, sell, or serve these products,” the company stated.
The moringa tree has been utilized in herbal medicine for centuries and is rich in nearly 30 vitamins, over 40 antioxidants, as well as essential minerals and phytonutrients. This plant is native to Northern India and East Africa.
Nutritional therapist Kelly Hopley from Incorporating Wellness with Kelly Hopley previously stated, “Moringa is an intriguing plant known as the miracle tree due to its remarkable nutritional profile.
“Providing seven times the vitamin C found in oranges and abundant in minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium, it’s easy to see why it has earned such a nickname.”
While research is limited, moringa is thought to help increase testosterone, balance blood sugar levels, lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, combat inflammation, regulate gut health, enhance immune function, and offer brain protection, among other benefits.
What People Are Saying
Ambrosia Brands LLC stated: “We are actively investigating, alongside the FDA, the potential link between the Salmonella outbreak and Rosabella Moringa Capsules. We have halted all purchases and usage of raw moringa leaf powder from the supplier related to these lots.
“This recall is a voluntary measure, and we take this situation very seriously. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may cause our customers.”
What Happens Next
The FDA and CDC will continue their investigation, tracing and testing to identify the source of the contamination and assess whether further products need to be recalled, while updating the public as new information becomes available.
