Celebrating her remarkable achievement as a two-time Grammy winner, Laufey shined in the spotlight tonight. The talented singer-songwriter, well-regarded as a coquette beauty icon, took home the award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her recently released album, A Matter of Time, which debuted in August 2025. True to her signature soft and ethereal aesthetic, Laufey greeted her fans wearing a stunning lilac Miu Miu gown, complemented by a matching purple eye look, a delicate rosy flush, and flowing mermaid waves that I am eager to replicate come Monday morning.
Fortunately, I managed to gather all the details from Jenny Cho, the master stylist behind Laufey’s look. “Our aim was to maintain a natural, effortless vibe true to her aesthetic,” Cho explained to Who What Wear regarding their collaborative process. “Laufey conveys a strong sense of her own style, making our sessions remarkably cooperative. We aimed for something timeless and feminine while still feeling modern and stylish.”
Long, textured waves, which Cho aptly dubs “the modern mermaid,” were a natural choice for the occasion, providing both a fluid and romantic flair while remaining polished enough for the red carpet. Below, explore Cho’s full breakdown of the look—which includes every product utilized and exclusive behind-the-scenes images.
Laufey’s Miu Miu gown radiated a whimsical, ethereal charm, prompting Cho to ensure the hair looked lively and fluid, rather than overwhelming the ensemble. To create that soft, tousled effect, she started by applying Emi Jay’s Heavenly Hair Milk and Halo Oil to Laufey’s damp hair. “I proceeded to blow-dry with the Emi Jay Flat Brush, a mixed bristle styling tool, to create texture, and then fashioned loose waves using a larger curling iron,” she elaborated. (Pro tip: The milky serum-oil blend helps achieve a smoother, quicker drying result.)
“The primary focus is the texture. The waves have an intentionally slightly undone look, contributing to the airy, flowing effect while avoiding a stiff appearance. This subtle detail is crucial to achieving a modern aesthetic without the style feeling overly constructed,” Cho explained. It’s essential to allow the hair to cool completely before separating the waves; failing to do so may cause the bends to lose their form. Once Laufey’s hair was impeccably styled, Cho used a top-secret, yet-to-be-released finishing product to separate the waves, followed by another drop of Halo Oil to enhance the shine. Voilà! The modern mermaid waves are perfectly suited for a Grammy winner.
This effortless yet refined hairstyle is expected to continue trending throughout the 2026 season. “It’s versatile enough for daily wear or special events,” Cho noted. “The trend leans towards more movement with minimal stiffness, embracing shine while maintaining an organized appearance. Hair that looks naturally full and radiates a liquid-like luster is continuously inspiring me, and I foresee myself, along with other red-carpet favorites—to embrace this look throughout all of 2026.
