Genetec Introduces AI Tools for Faster Video Incident Review

Genetec has introduced innovative investigation tools to its Security Centre SaaS platform, designed to streamline incident review processes in multi-site environments that utilize various camera systems.

This update enhances the investigation workflow within the software-as-a-service solution for physical security operations. It addresses prevalent challenges in incident review, such as disjointed evidence and the need to restart searches as inquiries shift between different sites or systems.

Large organizations often manage security operations across multiple facilities and regions while employing cameras and devices from different manufacturers. Consequently, operators may depend on a variety of tools and processes as incidents unfold, especially when initial information is scarce.

Search and Review

The investigation functionality is centered on a search-driven workflow. Genetec has rolled out an advanced AI-powered natural language search feature, enabling investigators to input everyday descriptions—such as approximate times or specific clothing details—and search video feeds across various locations and camera brands.

Investigators can refine their search results by considering context, including location, adjacent activity, and the sequence of events. Genetec promotes this feature as a means to minimize the time spent sifting through footage, particularly when investigation begins with limited details.

Once pertinent footage is pinpointed, a timeline preview can be utilized to validate and narrow down the search window. This allows investigators to scan and confirm critical moments without the need to load or view full recordings.

Movement Tracking

The new tools also facilitate the tracking of individuals, vehicles, and objects across scenes. Genetec has incorporated trajectory analysis to visualize movement patterns and illustrate how an event unfolded over time, thereby reducing the need to watch extensive video footage when reconstructing an incident.

Additional features within the investigation experience include similarity detection, entry and exit tracking, contextual analysis, and visual trajectory search. These enhancements complement case and evidence management within a unified interface.

Case Building

As reviews progress, the Security Centre SaaS consolidates evidence into a comprehensive case file. Video clips, snapshots, and relevant materials can be organized chronologically, complete with tags and additional context, presented as a storyboard that outlines the sequence of events.

The platform also incorporates AI-assisted documentation features, generating automated summaries of video clips that investigators can use to document findings and communicate outcomes to stakeholders.

Genetec characterized these updates as part of a shift away from closed, single-vendor environments and disjointed investigation tools. “When an incident occurs, security teams need to act swiftly and pursue the investigation wherever it leads, even when initial details are limited,” stated Anne-Cécile Millot-Tournier, Product Group Director for Intelligent Automation at Genetec.

“Unlike tools designed for restricted, single-vendor systems, the new investigative capabilities within Security Centre SaaS are optimized for enterprise environments, allowing teams to operate across thousands of cameras, various sites, and diverse ecosystems without the need to switch systems or initiate separate searches as new leads surface,” commented Millot-Tournier.

Workflow Integration

The tools are crafted to maintain connectivity among evidence, decisions, and contextual information from the outset of an incident report through to case closure. This integration reduces the duplication of efforts as new leads arise and investigations expand across different systems or geographical areas.

Security personnel can also transition seamlessly from live monitoring to active investigation within a single interface. The workflow encompasses evidence collection, review, and dissemination of findings to both internal and external stakeholders.

The enhanced investigation capabilities will begin deploying to Security Centre SaaS users starting in February 2026, with additional functionalities to follow. Genetec asserts that these changes aim to reduce investigation times from hours to minutes while ensuring operators maintain control and transparency in how conclusions are drawn.
