The Nantucket Clothing Company, a beloved retail establishment in downtown Nantucket, is set to close after 31 years of operation. The store, located on South Water Street, announced that the summer of 2026 will mark its final season.
Co-owner Lisa McKechnie expressed pride in the transformation of the business, which began as a T-shirt shop and evolved into a well-regarded destination for high-quality sweatshirts for both adults and children. She noted the significance of the store in providing first jobs to over 100 local kids, many of whom have found success in life beyond their time at the store.
While McKechnie confirmed that the building at 6 South Water Street has been sold, property records indicate that the sale has not officially closed yet. She expressed confidence in the new owners, hoping they will honor the legacy of the property. McKechnie concluded with heartfelt gratitude towards their employees, customers, and the Nantucket community for their support over the years.
