As excitement builds for the upcoming release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 on May 1, it seems fitting to highlight some of the standout fashion moments leading up to its debut. Anne Hathaway, a prominent figure in the film, recently graced the runway at New York Fashion Week, where she donned a daringly sheer dress from Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2026 collection, accompanied by a feather boa.
Stylist Erin Walsh might have had access to the label’s show notes early, as Ralph Lauren expressed a love for adventurous fashion. “My Fall 2026 collection is inspired by that kind of renegade spirit and the confidence of a woman who will wear it in her own personal way,” Lauren wrote. Hathaway perfectly embodied this vision with her transparent gown, which featured diagonal strands of ruffled lace that cascaded elegantly from a high halter neck down to a flowing train, revealing glimpses of black underwear underneath.
To accentuate the dress’s dramatic flair, Hathaway draped a feather boa around her elbows. The chocolate brown feathers provided a subtle contrast to her sleek black gown, enhancing her look without overshadowing the dress itself. Her choice of minimal jewelry—small hoop earrings, diamond studs, and chainlink bracelets in yellow gold—further emphasized the sheer beauty of the gown.

When Hathaway posed without the boa, the origins of her dress from the Fall 2025 collection became more apparent. Look 44 had graced the Ralph Lauren runway last year and its sheer design matched elegantly with other near-invisible styles from the Fall 2026 lineup, such as the delicate rhinestone sleeves seen on Gigi Hadid‘s closing look.

Hathaway’s relationship with naked dressing has always been intriguing. Her sheer outfits have defied conventional timelines, urging fashion enthusiasts to keep an eye out for her unpredictable choices. Although she first graced the red carpet braless at the School of Rock premiere in 2003, her more recent sheer appearances have become artfully less provocative, such as the elegant Valentino gown at the 2013 Met Gala, which was lined with a nude slip.
The last time Hathaway embraced such a bold “adventure” in transparency was during the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival, where she wore a Valentino design featuring polka-dotted mesh alongside a grid of leather bows. Despite its daring appearance, a nude bodysuit peeked out beneath the layered fabric.

In addition to her bold fashion choices, Hathaway fully embraced the theme of her new film at the Ralph Lauren show. Last July, she was seen filming The Devil Wears Prada 2, wearing a stylish brown suede blazer paired with a Polo Ralph Lauren cable-knit sweater. This look was much more aligned with her character’s refined style in the film.
The contrast between her on-screen persona and her daring fashion statements creates a fascinating dynamic. As the press tour continues, we can only hope to see more of Hathaway’s stylish adventures in the coming weeks.
