Scrooge’s Blessings: An Economic Perspective

As the festive season unfolds, we are reminded of the cheer and warmth that Christmas brings. A moment of joy and reflection can turn into a cherished memory. In the spirit of this season, let’s dive into a timeless tale that encapsulates the essence of Christmas. Here’s a glimpse into Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol.

“Running to the window, he opened it and leaned out. No fog, no mist; the day was clear, bright, jovial, and brisk; the cold invited the blood to dance; golden sunlight poured down; the sky was heavenly; the air sweet and fresh; cheerful bells rang out. Oh, how glorious! Glorious!”

“What’s today!” cried Scrooge, calling down to a boy in Sunday attire, who had perhaps lingered to look around.

“EH?” replied the boy, filled with curiosity.

“What’s today, my fine fellow?” asked Scrooge.

“Today!” exclaimed the boy. “Why, it’s CHRISTMAS DAY.”

“It’s Christmas Day!” Scrooge echoed to himself. “I haven’t missed it. The Spirits accomplished it all in one night. They have the power to do anything. Indeed, they can. Hello there, my fine fellow!”

A Time to Celebrate

While Christmas may have been yesterday, the festive spirit isn’t over just yet. After all, it’s still the joyous Christmas season. Why not embrace it to the fullest?

You have ample opportunity to celebrate the goodwill that still lingers in the air. Surely, there’s still a delightful assortment of cookies and treats to keep you warm. Perhaps you even took the day off work to unwind with family and friends.

So, during this magical time of redemption and togetherness, let’s take a break from our usual discussions on the economy and financial markets to share more of this timeless scene from Charles Dickens’ beloved tale, A Christmas Carol…

Blessings from Scrooge

“Scrooge was better than his word. He acted on it, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did NOT perish, he became a second father. He grew to be as good a friend, master, and man as anyone knew in the old city, or any other good town or borough in the world.

“Some people laughed at his transformation, but he let them chuckle, giving little thought to them; for he understood that nothing good ever happened on this globe without some laughter at the outset. Knowing these individuals would remain oblivious anyway, he figured it was just as well that they should grin instead of harboring their cynicism in less pleasing forms. His own heart laughed, and that sufficed for him.

“He no longer conversed with Spirits, but adhered to the principle of Total Abstinence from that point on; it was often said of him that he knew how to celebrate Christmas to perfection, if any man alive possessed such wisdom. May this be said of us all! And so, as Tiny Tim remarked, ‘God bless Us, Every One!’”

Merry Christmas!

Sincerely,
