Two-Fifths of Brits Experience Gym Injuries Post-January Fitness Surge

As many people in the UK dive into their fitness journeys, caution is needed to prevent injuries and promote recovery. Recent reports show that 40% of Britons are experiencing pain or soreness from their exercise routines, with a worrying 25% nursing unresolved injuries.

According to research from The Turmeric Co., a significant portion of the UK population—41%—is grappling with injuries or chronic soreness related to their fitness activities. This surge comes as over a third (34%) of individuals aimed to re-engage with exercise after the long break of January. However, the same study revealed that 83% of those suffering from persistent injuries feel hindered in their ability to maintain a regular workout schedule, and 22% have stopped exercising altogether.

The study underscores a crucial gap in knowledge about injury prevention, with 54% of respondents admitting they have no idea how to avoid exercise-related injuries. A further 64% don’t know how to effectively return to peak fitness post-injury, which is alarming considering that 33% are using unverified social media advice during their recovery. In contrast, 21% simply halt their workouts when facing a setback, and 14% take no steps at all to mitigate injuries before they occur.

Some fitness enthusiasts are turning to alternative methods, with 10% considering turmeric shots as a preventive or recovery measure. In light of these concerns, The Turmeric Co. has launched a mobile rehabilitation initiative, The Rep Recovery Rover. This project aims to support both beginners and seasoned athletes by providing complimentary physiotherapy sessions and nutrition consultations, including turmeric shots.

This initiative debuted at Apex Fitness London, a hub for CrossFit enthusiasts. Attendees can consult physiotherapists for personalized strengthening exercises tailored to their specific needs, while performance nutritionist Ed Tooley will offer insights on natural recovery solutions, including the most suitable types of turmeric shots.

Among the options are Raw Turmeric & Ginger shots, which promote joint health, and Raw Turmeric & Beetroot shots aimed at enhancing endurance and performance in high-intensity workouts. Each shot contains up to 35g of raw turmeric root, complemented by other beneficial superfoods.

Turmeric’s active compound, curcumin, is praised for its anti-inflammatory properties; however, it is often not easily absorbed by the body. To combat this, The Turmeric Co. incorporates piperine (black pepper extract) and additional natural absorption enhancers in their BioMax Uptake Blend, which is stated to improve absorption by as much as 2,000%.

The efficacy of these shots is supported by clinical research and endorsed by various professional football teams in the UK as a means of reducing post-exercise inflammation.

Thomas “Hal” Robson-Kanu, founder and CEO of The Turmeric Co., commented, “Exercise-related injuries are a significant concern, especially when many of us push for fitness goals too quickly. With personal experience of dealing with injuries from my football career, I understand how discouraging it can be to stop exercising. Establishing sustainable habits and employing science-based solutions is vital for recovery and long-term wellness.”

He added, “Exercise can be intimidating, and injuries often deflate one’s confidence. Our goal is to empower individuals to face these challenges head-on so they can prioritize their health and fitness well into the future.”

The Rep Recovery Rover is set to travel to gyms across the UK throughout the year. Interested gym-goers can nominate their local fitness center via The Turmeric Co.’s Instagram (@theturmericco).

The brand has also partnered with Sainsbury’s to offer 420ml bottles of The Turmeric Co. shots for £3.95 from February 4 to February 10. For more details, visit theturmeric.co.

Conclusion

In the pursuit of fitness, awareness and prevention are crucial. Many suffer injuries simply because they lack knowledge on how to manage their recovery effectively. By understanding how to prevent injuries and seeking supportive resources, individuals can safely enjoy their fitness journeys. Always prioritize listening to your body, and consider reaching out to professionals for guidance to help facilitate a smoother path to achieving your health and fitness goals.
