The Green Cove Springs Soul Food and Music Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary with a Silver Jubilee Gala on September 20 at Sullivan Hall in Fleming Island. This milestone event honored the festival’s rich history and recognized community members who have made significant contributions to youth mentorship and service over the years.
Founders Felecia and Clarence Hampshire presented commemorative plaques and reflected on the festival’s origins, acknowledging volunteers, sponsors, and community leaders who have supported its growth. Carol Copeland served as the mistress of ceremonies for the evening.
A key highlight included the recognition of two esteemed Clay County coaches: Coach Ron Riddle, honored for over five decades of coaching and named Grand Marshal of the upcoming Soul Food Festival Parade, and the late Coach Herbert Wilbert, who was recognized posthumously for his extensive dedication to coaching and community service, earning him the title of honorary grand marshal for this year’s parade.
The festival aims to unite residents around the cultural traditions of the Southern and African American communities. This year’s festivities will continue with the 25th Annual Green Cove Springs Soul Food and Music Festival on October 3, from noon to 7 p.m. at Vera Francis Hall Park, starting with a parade at noon.
