Powerlifting for a Purpose: The Blueberry Beast Competition at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival
The Marshall County Blueberry Festival is set to host an exciting new event this year: the Blueberry Beast powerlifting competition. This event, catering to both men and women, aims not only to showcase strength but also to support families facing challenging times through a partnership with the nonprofit organization, Project Fire Buddies.

Event Coordinator and member of Fire Buddies, Adam Baer, emphasizes that participants will engage in bench pressing, deadlifting, and squats, creating a fun and competitive atmosphere. The festival, which annually draws in hundreds of thousands of attendees, provides an excellent opportunity for fitness enthusiasts to shine while doing something meaningful.
Organized by FitStop24, a local fitness center, the Blueberry Beast competition contributes directly to Project Fire Buddies. This charity is dedicated to supporting families and children under 18 who are dealing with terminal illnesses. Baer explains, “We walk alongside families during these tough times, bringing gifts not only for the sick child but also for their siblings to spread joy and positivity.”

For its inaugural year, organizers are anticipating around 200 participants. An attractive registration fee is currently being offered: $80 for FitStop members and $100 for non-members. FitStop24 Co-Owner Makla Sanchez notes that the proceeds help brighten the lives of children facing serious health challenges.

Baer reflects on the enriching experience of working with families: “Being part of something like this leaves lasting memories, making us better people as we walk alongside these families.”
The Blueberry Beast powerlifting competition is scheduled to take place from September 4th to 6th at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival. It promises to be a day of strength, community spirit, and support.
